I would like to offer my warmest congratulations on the opening of Linden Hall’s High School. We at Cambridge have seen Linden Hall develop from its beginnings as an elementary school, and are very pleased to hear that the highly original and innovative education that Linden Hall is pioneering in Japan will be available for your students all the way up to university.
Your students will be entering working life in the third decade of the 21st century. With the speed of change that technology and internationalization has brought, it is hard to predict exactly what difficulties and challenges that their generation will face. What can be predicted however is that the ability to think for oneself, a strong sense of identity, multiple languages and the understanding of and respect for one’s own culture and the cultures of others, will be vital and useful attributes to have.
Linden Hall has from elementary level always sought to cultivate such attributes, and the continuation at high school level of such internationally-minded educational programs will without doubt augment the curriculum. Top universities worldwide recognize that independent research, critical thought and a spirit of contribution to society are key to a modern education, and the adoption of these concepts at the core of Linden Hall’s curriculum will enhance the education that students at Linden Hall receive, and guarantee that upon graduation they will have the choice not only of the best universities in Japan, but also around the world.
We wish all of you at Linden Hall the very best for the future, and hope someday to welcome a graduate of your school to study with us.
