Immersion Program

Children, always in English environment

Linden Hall utilizes English Language immersion from Grade One of elementary school. This is a partial immersion system, whereby most subjects are taught primarily in English, although some classes in these subjects are taught in Japanese to ensure students are familiar with the necessary vocabulary in their native language. Classes such as kokugo and Japanese History are taught entirely in Japanese.
Although English classes are obviously taught too, the use of English as the medium of instruction and a tool for understanding of other subjects enables students to acquire natural ability in the language.
We follow the curriculum laid as laid down by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and, Science and Technology, and accordingly use the textbooks prescribed, but supplement these with sub-textbooks written in English.
For the last two years of senior high school, students chose to pursue either the IB Diploma, in which case almost all classes are conducted in English, or a more traditional approach wherein all classes are conducted in Japanese.
